You may have already heard of Heifer International, an organization that works to fight hunger by giving needy families around the world and in the United States livestock, training, or other assistance that helps improve their livelihood. Heifer has been recognized for its work in Fast Company and Forbes, among other places.
I know we're still going through some difficult economic times, but if you have anything to spare this holiday season I hope you'll consider making a donation.
In order to encourage people to spread the word, for every comment someone makes in this post between now and 6PM Pacific time on Wednesday, my wife and I will donate $1.00 (up to $1,000)
And, better yet, if you want in on the fun you could do a per-comment pledge on your own blog and enter it into the linky list at the bottom of this post. We can encourage everyone to stop by so we can multiply the giving! Last year we raised over $2,000 together.

I'm writing from Berkeley, CA (also known as Bezerkly). When I was an elementary school teacher my class would nominate and vote on a charity to help and then find ways to raise money for it. Heifer Internatl always made the list and got voted in a few times. They're a good organization.
And you, Nathan, are a good person for promoting it and donating to it. I can make no promises this year, but one of my presents to my daughter (her request) is to donate money to the cause she finds worthy. I'll be sure to talk up Heifer Internatl.

I first heard about Heifer International from a state judge who attends my fairly small church. Every year she encourages us to donate and as a result, the children of my church decided to take this charity on as a mission project. In the last few years by simply bringing their pennies every Sunday (with a few extra from the adults), they have raised enough money to purchase a cow, water buffalo, ducks, bees, rabbits and many other animals. As I'm writing this, they have over $1000 in their fund to purchase the next set of animals! I'm glad to hear that you've also taken on this worthwhile charity.

There were a number of instances this year where the cover art was not representative of the characters. My selfish wish is that I find an agent and a publisher. My non-selfish wish is that we have an uprising that forces our government officials to put the people first. To put aside politics and work together to make good decisions to reduce the deficit, secure social security and solidify Medicare/Medicaid. We are better than this. I know we are. We can work together to take care of each other. Otherwise what is the point really?

My wish for 2011 is very unoriginal, but nonetheless I wish for me and my author friend to manage finding agents this year.
I work for the American Angus Association so I really dig this charity. My wish: That the house would clean itself.

This is Megan from Oregon. My personal wish for 2011 is to be able to move out of my parents' house because it's getting a little old. A wish for the country would be that our elected officials start working together instead of fighting or needing an incentive to actually vote for things. I don't really see it happening but it's nice to hope.
I'm Lisa in Texas. My wish for 2011 is more peace and progress around the world. I am supporting World Vision this year, but I have done Heifer in the past and think it's great...
I wish to stay centered and full of love, feeling it come out of me, feeling myself receive it. I wish then to be living my writing dream, feeling the words flow and having someone eagerly snatch them up for publication (first the right agent, then the right publisher).
I wish joy, prosperity, compassion, health, and the fulfillment of dreams for the whole world in 2011.

I'm writing from a car dealership beside a garbage dump here in lovely Connecticut, and I wish that time slows down in 2011, since so many great things are going to happen and I want to savor every minute of it.
This is a wonderful thing you're doing, Nathan, and in fact you've inspired me to make a sizable donation of my own (and not based on my blog comments... or it wouldn't be nearly as sizable).
Though, what's up with your followers? I'm a day late here, and we're barely at 130 comments? Come on, people! The less fortunate need llamas! Get with the program!
