Contest!!
Next week will be an official guest blog week, and I currently have three open slots. These shall go to the persons who write the best, most spectacular, most repostable guest blog entries in the multiverse. Want to build blog traffic and/or pontificate on a topic that you find pontificatable?
Here's how this will work:
- Please post your entry as a new topic in the special Guest Blog Contest Spectacular forum in the, uh, forums. In order to do this, if you haven't already you will need to register yourself in the forums. You see where I'm going with this. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED INTO FORUMS. Ha. It's not dangerous though. In fact everyone there is quite nice.
- Please limit yourself to one entry.
- You may enter a post that you submitted for the last guest blog contest but it's probably best to send something new.
- Please do not e-mail me your entry.
- I will choose the three best, most helpful, funniest, awesomest posts to run next week and link to the guest blog author's blog or website or Amazon page or favorite charity or what have you. The topic is totally up to you, although some relevancy to this blog's themes will probably receive preference (but not necessarily!).
- While I will choose the entries based on their merit and general awesomeness, any tie will go to the person who is active in the forums. This is, after all, a rather transparent effort to drive traffic to the forums. Forums forums forums forums forums!!!!
- I will lock the forum at 8:30 AM Pacific time tomorrow morning and will announce the winner tomorrow also.
- Rules and guidelines subject to change without notice.

I'm at Defcon 3...
My is the submit button so frightening? Glad that's over!
Lol. Forums, forums, forums. You will be assimilated. You're pretty funny, Nathan.
Well, I'd have to write something new by tomorrow morning - oh, my, oh my, oh my.
Well, we'll see, but the possiblity seems sadly in the negatives given my schedule. I will, however, totally cheer on all entrants!
Yea, forum entrants!
I'll also add that I've thoroughly enjoyed the forums. Helpful, informative - all the people there have been really nice.
Um...except for that Ink sherrif fellow. He keeps threatening to delete me. No idea why. Who would ever want to delete me??
Oh fine. Resistance is futile. :P
Mine's up - Im in it to win it.
PSA: If you suffer from ailments due to writing and revisions deadlines, check out my entry.
IT could save your life. :)
PS gross my word verification is backpuse?!
Okay, I'm sitting here at work, trying to think of a blog post topic that isn't controversial.
Oh sheesh.
Nathan, I'm sad that you won't be here next week though. I hope you're going away somewhere fun. That would be okay, then.
Ok, so I've discovered the one thing that's a drawback to having Nathan as an agent. I can no longer enter his fun contests! One thing out of a bazillion is a pretty reasonable comparison however, so I suppose I can't complain.
Nathan, you are a saint for running another contest. Oh My God, I love your Forums, so I will probably not be able to keep myself from writing a contest entry, and my brain is already swimming with ideas. I might write about eBooks or something on the topic Scott and I have been discussing in your Forums: the topic of networking on the Internet.
Mira -
You could write about humor and entertaining Blog readers on the Internet. :)
Off topic, just wanted to ask nathan what he thought of Booklocker, Booksurge, and Book lockers suit against Amazon/booksurge. I was thinking about POD with Booklocker but I'd rather wait to hear what you think....and yes, I know what you think of POD in gen. from previous discussions :O)
Nathan, is it okay if I enter with something I already posted at my own blog? I apologize it you already answered this somewhere and I missed it in all the excitement that goes along with the "Guest Blog Contest Spectacular".
I feel all Star Trek..... being all assimilated. :O)
and here i thought your forums were getting plenty of activity already. i've run a forum for 4 years and i'm the only repeat poster there. ;)
don't know that i have anything to contribute as far as a guest blog post goes, but i'll see if i can think of something in the next couple hours.
"Forums forums forums forums forums!!!!"
That was funny. It reminded me of the time Hobbes said, "smock smock smock smock smock!" and Calvin said, "what is WRONG with you?" I'm gonna enter. i like contests. Contests contests contests contests contests.
Very fun. Submission sent.
dawn-
Yes, a post from your blog is fine.
Thinking...thinking...Hmmm, something awesome. We'll have to see what my little mind can come up with!
Sounds like a fun contest. Wish I actually had time : (
Marilyn, awesome topic. I copied your post from the other day, and sent it to myself - entitled: Mariyn's marketing tips.
You go! :)
I did think of a topic! It's not half bad. No one steal it, okay? If I can't get it done for tomorrow, I'll write it up for next time.
Wow! Some great stuff already posted in there. Since I'll be entering an old post, I have time to read and comment other entries. This place is burting with talent. Maybe a Nathan Bransford Forum Print Anthology could be in order. Proceeds to be donated.....
Mira,
I'm honored! I had hoped my post might help someone. I've learned so much from other writers, I’m happy I could share some useful information.
I will block all mental telepathy, so that I cannot possibly know and accidentally steal your topic. :)
Is the expression "dicking around" considered "vulgar" on your forums? Just wanting to know what I'm getting myself into here.
As I am in Ireland I have no idea what time it is! Well done on getting us all writing,
Excellent idea.
Thanks for the opportunity, Nathan :)
What a fun contest!
Submitted mine, now to read all the others (which I expect will be awesome!)!
Sheila, Nathan is 8 hours behind us. So morning will be round 4-6pm for us (i think)
Isn't it really really sad that i actually look that up?
(don't answer that *looks sheepish*)
A helpful tip for time difference is to just google what time is it in San Francisco (or anywhere else). Google will tell you.
Thanks Nathan!
Google knows best ;P
Curently 00.44 (friday) here. . .
time for bed, me thinks!
Ahhh! I entered. *hides* I tried to make mine very informational so that even though I more than likely won't win then the people who read it can still get something out of it and maybe even save a few of their old books they may have otherwise trashed. Great contest!
Sincerely,
Emma
I am out of ideas. And I had very little to start with. Plus, I can't handle rejection right now. I think it is the winter weather. I'm extra sensitive. Perhaps I need some more Vitamin D. Serotonin. All that good stuff. (If only this were California).
But I'm off to the forums to read. Long live the forums!
abc--
That's how I feel too. But I'm enjoying reading the entries and bopping around the forums (esp the procrastination forum).
I entered the contest and am having so much fun reading the other entries. It's wonderful that new entries keep popping up and are so much fun to read. I ended up devoting all day and night to writing my entry and then reading the other entries. Great contest!
You had me at hello.
Wait, you didn't say hello.
Oh well, I'm in!
Just registered and fell down the forum rabbit hole.
Can't wait to poke around this site some more, there appears to be a lot of great stuff here!
The rules CLEARLY state one entry per person.
Are violators put to death?
You know that kid who would leap across the table if she thought you were cheating at Battleship?
Yep, that was me.
I know the rules state that entries don't have to be recent or have subject matter relevant to writing/the writing life/publishing/etc but there's a few standouts that have obviously been written on a whim and have relevance to writing. I vote for a recent post to take top spot.
Being able to take a subject or issue and bust something out with great flair is a gift true Bloggers have. Sure, I post stuff to my Blog but I don't consider myself a "Blogger"
I'm not advocating for my own entry in any way(my entry has been edited many times). I'm just truly amazed people were able to write something so poignant and enjoyable so quickly. If this is a Blogging contest and not an Essay contest then those people deserve the best shot.
Great stuff all around though!
It's so sad to me that there will be a Nathan contest that I didn't enter, but I am just too tired and swamped. Besides, I'm still floating on the moon from the last one. So, that really should be enough for now - but next time...!
Marilyn - yea! Very happy you posted! Good for you. :) Sure hope you didn't steal my idea though. It was entitled "Marilyn's marketing tips," just so you know.
ha ha, just kidding. :) I think it's wonderful you entered.
JimD, I just want you to know my heart breaks for you, you lucky duck.
I'm off to read the entries. Good luck everyone! :)
Mira,
LOL. That's funny - your idea was "Marilyn's marketing tips". You're hilarious! I was actually looking for your entry earlier today. But I understand too tired and swamped ... oh boy, I've had days like that. Have fun floating on the moon from winning the last contest! And when you’re done with that, you should spend a little time on Cloud Nine. You deserve it!
Sounds like great fun. I subscribe to your blog, so I'll certainly get the winning entries in my inbox. I won't submit one. I can't compete. I'm sure you'll get hundreds of entries.
It's a fantastic idea!
Oh, wait. I have to submit by morning?? *checks watch to see that it's 5 a.m. and far past my bed time*
Man, this is the second entry I've had to pass on due to my recent crazy work schedule! I vote that the next contest gives more advance warning! Maybe a hint on Twitter? :)
Yep, not happening for me, but I joined the forum anyway. ;)
Reading through (and posting - hope thats ok?) the posts some are really brilliant and complete knowledge base touching on every sort of subject! totally recommend people go over and take a wonder!
Well, I hope you're happy. You've assimilated me into the forums. Well played, sir, well played.
Well, that's what I get for neglecting my blog reading duties for one day. No chance now to enter. Tears. Tears.
WV: platoic - something to do with Greek philosophy?
I echo Chuck H. - I registered for the forum, but then didn't have energy to write blog entry. Oh well maybe next time.
I'm signed up in waaaaaaayyy too many forums, so here's my entry:

Writing of the blogs and website content is most important as you know content is the king of website.
Brilliant idea to get free blog posts while benefiting other writers. Shame the boat came in too early for me. Nevertheless, I am following the habit of posting five comments a day on other blogs. Maybe you can comment on mine today to get your daily traffic fix. :)
