Dear Agent for a Day,
We know of five. You can count them on one hand – five people walking this planet harboring extra-terrestrial DNA.
Raymond Russ, a mild-mannered analyst for British Intelligence has a broken heart and a drinking problem, but when he discovers a gaping hole in the inventory of a secret lab he’s closing down, he quickly sounds an alarm heard from England to DC.
A young scientist at the lab has used alien tissue to treat infertility, thus producing five remarkable individuals over a 30-year period: a concert violinist, a Wal-Mart clerk, a brilliant mathematician, a professor of literature, and a world-famous rock star. They’re unaware that their lives could be shattered at any moment by a military assault team – or by discovering abilities they never dreamed possible. Determined to prevent them from being rounded up and dissected like lab rats, Russ is forced to work with Amanda Walker, the official tasked with threat assessment and a woman he considers the lesser of two evils.
My 90,000-word thriller, ON ONE HAND, follows a man in search of redemption as he tries to save the innocent while not dooming the world.
This is my first novel. The full manuscript is available upon request.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Author

Dear Author,
Thank you for your query. Notes like this are the hardest for me to write because while you came close, I can ultimately only represent those manuscripts I feel passionately about. Thank you for thinking of me. Good luck in placing this elsewhere.
Sincerely, Guy Stewart

This sounded really interesting, and was one of my top choices. Perhaps one thing that turned me off was that I was more interested in the five people who had the alien gene, rather than the outside person. Best of luck with the story!

(Reason: I wanted to like this one. I have a soft spot for mild-mannered British characters. But the plot really didn’t do it for me. I’m confused about whether Russ actually knows who the five hybrids are, or if he must try to track them down himself while working with Walker. And why is he seeking redemption?)

[reasoning: an interesting plot, some defined characters, a tight query. My only reservation is that four of the five have such glamorous careers. I was grateful for the Walmart clerk.]
