Greetings from my secret bunker! Dick Cheney says hello.
Hope you enjoyed your expert guest bloggers. And now it’s time to enjoy time with family I mean completely neglect them in favor of finishing your NaNoWriMo book.
And remember, I like my books the way I like my turkey: dry, well-seasoned, stuffed with a duck, and deep fried. Make of that what you will.
See you in December!

Happy Turkey Day!

I like duck on Thanksgiving too, but not so sure about a turkey stuffed with duck. Hmmmmm.
Yat-Yee says
ps Welcome back.

I like my turkey as tofu. Tofurkey! I like my books to be meaty, though. Unless they are memoirs, then I like them JUICY! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!, yo.
Yat-Yee says
Oh, I see. You’re not back yet. Duh. Then say hi to my pal Cheney, will ya?
Miriam S.Forster says
I’ve never heard of turkey stuffed with duck… I’ve seen a picture of a dead snake with a crocodile coming out of it, but maybe that’s not the same thing?
ChristaCarol says
Happy Thanksgiving Nathan! Enjoy your turkey. Or duck. Or both!
~Red Tin Heart~ says
You have a wonderfully informative site. I enjoyed it very much.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Nathan. Be careful not to go on any hunting trips with Cheney for your turkey. I’ve had Turducken, and thought it was really tasty. Hmmmm…Sounds like you might like a submission about a duck that goes missing after being swallowed up by a turkey, maybe lots of related allusions to Pinnochio getting swallowed up by a whale, maybe some allusions to Moby Dick as well, lots of dry humor, a few spicy, well-seasoned passages, and a mystery plot in which the small town fry cook also moonlights as the detective trying to find the missing duck. No?

Hope you are having fun in your undisclosed secure location!
Dana says
I’ve always thought of you as a Turduckin kind of reader. 🙂

We don’t have thanks giving here in Australia, but we do have NaNo! I’m past the 40k mark…

Happy Thanksgiving folks and thanks again for the great blog Nathan. Even some of us aliens in far off lands might be enjoying a little turkey & cranberry sauce this week.
Julie Butcher-Fedynich says
I think he’s making it up. (trying to picture stuffing a duck into a turkey -ewww)It’s like a car wreck, I can’t look away. I think I’ll cook ham, now.
Scott says
Enjoy your Thankerween, Nathan. Well, that’s what I celebrate. Always gotta bring the scary ’round the scottStory Estate.
And if I may advise, do NOT try and deep fry your turkey inside the bunker. Unless Cheney volunteers to hold it, obviously.
Cheers!
Just_Me says
Watch out, Nathan, duck and turkey stuffed together, can that even be healthy? For the record, I’ve heard of that before. Just never tried it.
Sophie says
Happy Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for this blog amongst other things. You deserve your break!

Ha. Happy Thanksgiving.

Julie Butcher–
It’s called a Turducken. I’ve seen Paula Deen cook it on the Food Network.
Your de-bone both the turkey and duck and flaten both, placing the smaller duck to lay flat on the turkey and roll both up to roast. Sort of like a jelly roll, but with meat instead of cake.
Um, yeah, it also looked gross, but apparently there are people that swear by them.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Ang says
Happy, happy Turkey Day!

Happy T-day! See ya on the December side!

I have to admit.
I’m not wild about turkey. I’m very good at cooking it, but it always knocks me out.
I also have to admit that as a Canadian, I had Thanksgiving in October, and ate lamb that day.
Deee-lishus!
I do pay attention to American Thanksgiving though, it’s my signal to start Xmas shopping, and it’s a week before my birthday.
Anyhoo, happy thanksgiving, enjoy your turducken in the flash fryer thus completing your transformation into an urban redneck. 😉
Elyssa Papa says
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and to your return!
Lady Glamis says
Yup, didn’t read too much of your blog while you were gone . . . too busy with NaNo.
*heads off to finish the last 3k*
Robena Grant says
Deep fried? Yikes.
But then you young guys can eat anything and not gain an ounce. I know, because I shake my head in wonder at my lean son. I keep hoping I live long enough to see his girth expand in his mid-years, just so I can remind him that I told him so in his youth. Ha ha.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Anyone from Virginia knows they keep a different Thanksgiving.
How many of us knew about the French in Florida?

Let us know if you run into Jimmy Hoffa. Or better yet, Ambrose Bierce.
Hope you’re having a nice time.

You like your books stuffed with duck? The murder mystery I have where the mallard did it needs a query ASAP! Or does it need a quacky?
Whatever.
I hope everyone’s having a better Thanksgiving than I am. At least I’ve had a lot of good stuff for my blog. As long as you get a good story from it, it all seems worthwhile, right?
Chumplet - Sandra Cormier says
*sniff* I miss the Brandon Live.
No turkey for me — just a normal day. I wish I could have seen the Macy’s Parade!
Dara says
LOL, I just managed to finish my NaNo novel last night at 11 so I was able to focus on family this year…unlike last year 😛
Hope you had a great holiday!
Jawahara Saidullah says
A turducken= a turkey, stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken. Tasty! *retches* In some versions the chicken is stuffed with a quail, which is stuffed with an egg.
The whole thing is way too Frankenturkey to me, but oh well, there really is no accounting for taste.
Marian says
I’ve read of a Middle Eastern dish served at weddings, which consists of a whole roast camel, stuffed with a whole lamb, which is stuffed with chickens, which are stuffed with eggs and rice.
It’s like the culinary version of those Russian dolls that you can keep opening to find smaller dolls inside. So I can well believe there’s a turkey-stuffed-with-duck recipe. Maybe the duck is stuffed with hummingbirds or something.
Happy Thanksgiving!
alice says
Nathan, I’ve just discovered your blog and your incredibly helpful advice for authors. I’m amazed. Thank you. But I have a question. How can you be a literary agent and be so nice? There must be a dark side…

Thankfulness arrived a little late this year (in Michigan), specifically, just now reading about how ocean currents can power the world!
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth

/Ocean-currents-can-power-
the-world-say-scientists.html
Thankfulness reason #1 (in bold):
The system, conceived by scientists at the University of Michigan, is called Vivace, or “vortex-induced vibrations for aquatic clean energy”
Thankfulness reason #2 (in bold):
The engineers are now deploying a prototype device in the Detroit River, which has a flow of less than two knots. Their work, funded by the US Department of Energy and the US Office of Naval Research, is published in the current issue of the quarterly Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering.
***
And look at the name of the journal – Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering – now there’s an interesting juxtaposition. Kind of “steampunk” sounding.
