I'm Back! Mostly!

Hello everyone, and thanks for returning after the blog went dark this past week. We will be back to our usual programming soon.

In the meantime, if you are among the 250+ people who queried me in the past week and are awaiting a response... soon. Swear.

So what did I miss??

You're into the Hills, aren't you?

While I was in Burlingame I ran across a magazine in a Blockbuster that told me that Heidi Montag is ready to marry Spencer. Now they are apparently "on the same page".

Whenever I watch their interactions on the Hills, I feel so annoyed. They don't listen to each other, to say the least... but I did think it was cute that she went home with Spencer at the end of this season's finale. :)

You missed your regulars of course!

Hope you had a fantastic holiday. I would say 'fun in the sun' but since you live around palm trees I'll keep my green envy to myself.

Uhh..."Sex in the City" wiped out "Indiana Jones" in the box office?

@Other lies - Whoo! SEX AND THE CITY all the way. Damn thing never gets old. Men secretly love it too.

Rhetorical questions on queries made a staggering comeback.

There was some serious withdrawal going on without your blogs.

Oh and NY is going to recognize same-sex marriages from other states; hopefully, NY will join CA and others soon, too.

you missed me visiting this blog everyday, yelling "Doh!" when I remember you're gone. Then trying to visit all the other agent blogs on your list and yelling "Doh!" when i remember they're at BEA too.

wow, 250. Are we gonna get a breakdown?

And I'm sure we'd all love to hear about how your BEA went!

Over the past week I've been...

...declared king of the Morlocks.

...won the Nobel Peace Prize, in a poker game with Nelson Mandela.

...started a new blog story that I'm going to make up as I go along.

...noticed suspicious visits by people at big media companies to the business articles in my blog.

...started using an old fashioned reel lawnmower. Which led to my crowning as king of the Morlocks, but that's another story.

And that's about it.

I saw both Sex and the City and Indiana Jones. Loved Sex and the City. Was a bit dissapointed at Indiana Jones.

How was BEA? Details, details.

Nathan Bransford said...

Oh -- wasn't actually at BEA!

Oops! I mean, how was your vacation?

Green Minds Think Alike

Furious D -

I too am thinking of getting a reel lawn mower. But: Somehow I've gotten the idea into my head that it won't really cut the grass, there's only a special kind of 1920's throwback baby grass it will cut, such as auto workers planted in their tiny yards in Detroit back then - cheap weakling old-fashioned grass for a weakling non-gas lawn mower.

But there's a "recycling fever" I think I have caught recently - ?? - don't think withdrawal from a lit agent's blog causes such a thing - maybe it's digging holes, planting things, wanting to conserve water during what will undoubtedly be another dry Michigan summer.

***

While you were away you have missed political tumult - I found the DNC rules and regulation committee meeting on allocating delegates to be FASCINATING, on CSPAN - I love to sketch faces from CSPAN, the camera stays on people's faces long enough for you to get a sketch in - wow, you can feel connected to one of those "classical" sculptors way back when, chiseling a statue of some Roman tyrant, I mean, politician-orator-statesman. Maybe the sculptor had all sorts of judgments passing through their head, and when they were pounding on their chisel, it was in anger...yes, the vengeful pencil of the liberal artist, in motion circa June 2008, via CSPAN...

That's what you missed.

Welcome Back! What did you miss??? Looks like the BEA :)

Hope the vacationing was stress-free.

What did you miss? Well, since I can't remember if it's been mentioned before, you (Specifically your blog) made it onto WRITER'S DIGEST list of 101 best websites for writers. I suspect you should brace yourself for a flood of new readers, and badly written query letters. Should help you accomplish your goal of being the most queried agent in publishing. Congrats on that.

You weren't? I guess I just assumed once the blog went dark that you had gone to BEA as well. There was a librarian there who looked suspiciously like you, though!

Hey, welcome back. So nice to see a new heading in your RSS feed. :)

What'd you miss? Ummm... Judging from the comments so far, a lot of regular readers and commenters, in the throes of withdrawal, actually worked on our REAL writing in your absence. (Don't let that give you any ideas.)

Can't imagine what your Inboxes (email and snail-mail) must have looked like when you first opened them after a week+'s absence...

You missed the release of my fourth novel, and my publisher giving away the first as a free download.

May all those queries be good 'uns!

I would start singing the theme to Welcome Back Kotter, but you're way too young to remember.
Glad you're Barack. I mean back.

Wanda B-

My lawn is mostly tough, hard to kill weeds, with occasional grass patches, and the reel mower cuts them all down just fine.

For best performance you coat the blades with a silicon spray-on lubricant, and lube the gears before each mowing. The silicon keeps the grass from sticking to the blades and gumming things up.

I got the mower because the local power company is hiking up our rates, again, and I got sick and tired of wrestling with a damn tangled electrical cord for my mower. After the winter I just had, I'm actually demanding Global Warming.

See what happens when you go away Nathan? Your comments section becomes a lawn & garden show.

I went to an amusement park, got over a cold, sent my book to beta, read a dozen comic books, and powered through the second season of Supernatural!

That's what you're asking about, right?

You missed getting together with all of your readers for a flight of cocktails at Bourbon & Branch last Saturday. We missed you. It was quite the luscious (nay, "Lush-ous") literary evening.

Welcome back.

My blog is being turned into a website as we speak.

I am busy whacking words out of the book into the tall grass. A golfing analogy. (I don't golf. Way to ruin a nice walk.

Ordered a book Publisher's Weekly said was a great romance.

Uh, our opinions clearly differ. Can you say way-woo-many-adverbs? I knew you could, kids!

Glad you're back.

Sorry about stealing the candy.
